EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE SUBORDINATE COURTS IN THE SONITPUR DISTRICT JUDICIARY
1. CREATION OF JUDGESHIP
On 14–8–1967, undivided Darrang District and Sessions Judge Court was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. K. Dutta, the then Chief Justice of Hon’ble Gauhati High Court. Mr. U. N. Rajkhowa was posted as first District and Sessions Judge of Darrang District. On 31–10–1985, the Darrang District was divided in two parts. One is Sonitpur District and other is Darrang District.

3. PRESENT POSITION REGARDING COURT’S ACCOMMODATION & RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION OF JUDICIAL OFFICERS:
(A). EXISTING COURT BUILDING AT TEZPUR :
There are three Assam Type Court Building’s in Tezpur Sub–Division. Out of three Assam Type Court Buildings, the old Court Building is of District and Sessions Judge, accommodating the Courts and Offices of District and Sessions Judge, the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Assistant Sessions Judge, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Munsiff and the other Assam Type Court Building is of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court, and the third one is of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sonitpur, Tezpur accommodating Courts of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate and other Judicial Magistrates .
(B) NEW COURT BUILDING :
A new R.C.C. Court building is under construction at Tezpur.
(C) EXISTING COURT BUILDING AT BISWANATH CHARIALI :
There is one two storied RCC building at Biswanath Chariali Sub–Divisional Judicial Court accommodating all the three Courts namely of, (1) Additional District and Sessions Judge (FTC), (2) Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (M) and (3) Munsiff –cum- Magistrate. |
