History of District & Sessions Judge Court, Sonitpur, Tezpur

On 14–8–1967, undivided Darrang District and Sessions Judge Court was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. K. Dutta, the then Chief Justice of Hon’ble Gauhati High Court. Mr. U. N. Rajkhowa was posted as first District and Sessions Judge of Darrang District. On 31–10–1985, the Darrang District was divided in two parts. One is Sonitpur District and other is Darrang District.
The first roll of honour of District & Sessions Judges of Sonitpur District was Sri Upendra Nath Rajkhowa, (B.A, B.L). The List available is given below.

History of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Sonitpur, Tezpur

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate with the office was established in the year 1974 and R. Ahmed. was the first Chief Judicial Magistrate.

History of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court, Tezpur and Biswanath Chariali, Sonitpur

Court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (S), Tezpur was established in the same judicial Court building at Tezpur. The Court of sub-Divisional Magistrate (M), established at Biswanath Chariali was initially functioning in a rented building, and on completion of construction of its new Court building, the Court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (M) has been shifted and accommodated in the new building.

History of Fast Track Court Court, Tezpur and Biswanath Chariali,Sonitpur

The Fast Track Court, Tezpur was established in the year 2002 and the first judicial officer to become the Additional District and Sessions Judge(FTC) was Smt. Dipali Borbora. In the same year Fast Track Court, Biswanath Chariali was established, which was headed by Sri A. Alam as Additional District and Sessions Judge(FTC).
